Running to See Herself by DaNice Marshall Image
This painted “Winged Foot” tries to answer the question, “What happens when we see ourselves on TV?”

Growing up in Boston, at a time when women weren’t allowed to run the Boston Marathon, I was told that girls were too delicate to run such a grueling race. And when WBZ-TV started broadcasting live coverage of the race in 1981, there were no women runners.  Eventually, that would change.

Last year alone,10,260 women qualified to run the Boston Marathon. The artist painted “Running to See Herself” as a tribute to those women runners and the girls who watch and who are inspired.
