Trailblazer of the 60's and Beyond-Jennifer Trendel Image
This Winged Foot captures Bobbi Gibbs and her historic 1966 Boston Marathon run.  She is depicted at the center of the Foot, crossing the finish line, symbolizing the challenges she overcame and the goal she achieved through sheer determination and grit.  Bobbi's journey was no easy feat.  Women were not officially allowed to run the Boston Marathon until 1972.  However, she prevailed, making history.  A true pioneer, Bobbi broke barriers that restricted women and inspired countless others to step out of the shadows and pursue their own goals.

The yellow in this painting represents Bobbi's hair, while the sunflowers symbolize her strength.  This work draws inspiration from female artists of the 1960's.  The peace sign reflects the hope that emerged during wartime.  A depiction of the National Organization for Women protesting for equality further emphasizes the era's fight for women's rights.
