My inspiration for the Winged Foot design depicting the muscles in a leg next to a prosthetic leg came from the past year as I recuperated from a total knee replacement. I spent many hours building the muscles in both legs and making them stronger.  At first, it was very difficult and painful.  However, I powered through.
As I thought about my design for the Winged Foot, I thought about all the participants running the Boston Marathon with prosthetic limbs. It humbled me to think of what these athletes go through, to train for the run. The respect I have for them is immense. It made me think about how they are all the unsung heroes in the Marathon. Because of this, I wanted to create a design that reflected them.  I chose to make the colors bright so the winged foot representing them would stand out. The leg is made up of many muscles and all must be in top condition as well as the muscles that carry the prosthetic parts. Kudos to all the runners who train to run the Marathon, but especially all the runners who train in different ways to carry those bionic parts which, ultimately, work in unison with flesh, muscle, and mind.
